Bolognese

Bolognese belong to the Bichon family group, which includes the Bichon Frise, Maltese, Lowchen, Havanese and Coton de Tulear. Although there are some similarities, the Bolognese are a distinctive breed in their own right.

They are an enchanting companion toy dog. Small white square and compact with a distinctive a single coat: i.e. no undercoat which falls in loose open ringlets all over the body with shorter hair on the face. The texture is woolly as opposed to silky. It is never trimmed or clipped, is none shedding but requires regular combing to prevent matting. The eyes are large and dark as is the nose. They are very intelligent and love the companionship of people but are quite reserved with strangers, and whilst not yappy have acute hearing and will bark at strange noises.

The Bolognese isnt thought to have any eye problems, however we here at Verailles test yearly to ensure that all of our dogs are healthy enough to be bred.We would like to think that all breeders test BEFORE they breed as so many breeds of dogs in the UK have become tainted due to poor management by some show breeders.

REMEMBER FAULTS IN LINES START WITH SHOW BREEDERS....SMALL GENE POOLS ARE A SHODDY EXCUSE FOR POOR BREEDING MANAGEMENT DO NOT LET BREED CLUBS FOOL YOU, THEY WILL TRY!

Within the UK it is apparent that popular sire syndrome is taking place and this WILL prove detrimental to future breeding stock. This  information was given to us by a member of the Bolognese Club.

EYE TESTING IS A NECESSITY WITH THIS BREED AND MUST BE DONE YEARLY.
