trinity in the litter (note her size)

Trinnys Fund

Trinity was born last April (07), she was part of a litter that was premature and when you consider that for every week a dog is pregnant that effectively equates to a month of human gestation. The litter was 10 days early and Cilla just didnt want to know, she is very aloof and rather immature and still is. Anyway, Trin was very very tiny and weighed just 1oz, this decreased to just under 1/2 an oz as Cilla rejected her. Rather than see a puppy die I stepped in and became Trins mum, she was fed on skinners puppy milk and Delamere puppy milk and on occasions we would place her back in the pack for socialisation and to see if Cilla would feed her. After a few weeks Cilla started to allow her to suckle but only for a few minutes. She socialised well with her siblings and played well at times, but she remained very tiny compared to her siblings. At this time poor Kath Wilson (Havadream) had lost cross breed Flex her longtime friend and companion.

I said if ever I was to allow her to go to a new home she could have her, at that stage I had no plans to allow this as frankly I did not think Trin would ever be strong enough to mix with bigger dogs, even at 4 weeks I could fit her in the palm of my hand. For the next weeks Trin came everwhere with me inside my bra even to the shops, no one ever knew, she grew stronger and we commenced weaning , she took well to that but I noticed she had reflux (when the shunt valve forgets to close after eating-many babies have this to )so it was small meals often for her.We gave her a very well planned diet with not too much fats or proteins and it worked mostly.

Trin went back into the pack daily to play with her family and Cilla started to take notice of her. We decided that Trin should stay at home with us.

Kath Wilson asked could she have Trinity , she was given instructions on how she should be fed and not be fed, after 8 months with us she was stabilised and well.

Trin remained with me until she was 8 months of age and she was coping well , still tiny but loving , she was just adoreable. Xmas was due and I thought, would this be the time to allow Trin her freedom, it was a decision I did not take lightly , I called Kath and asked her was she ready to have Trin, these decisions are always given much thought, will a new owner to a new breed understand this dogs needs, will they listen to the advice given?

We were told Trin settled well  she was a feisty little girl  who enjoyed the rough and tumble of daily life.Izzy and Fleur( at this stage we were led to believe that all of our dogs were fit, well and groomed daily sadly we took this dog back due to her neglect, Mrs Wilson did not groom her for over 10 months ), accepted her into the fold and we all hoped that Trin would now start to build up . She developed good muscle strength and although she still retained the reflux , and the need for lots of water, no other signs unfolded we were told that she developed smelly breath these are all signs of poor kidney function of which in dogs is an owners nightmare especially if the dog is so tiny. It is also an indication that our strict feeding regime was NOT being followed by Mrs Wilson. Trin had been examined by our vets and her kidneys did not appear sore so we all just plodded on and hoped .We later found after reading many emails Mrs Wilson had sent to new doggy owners that she had used dried foods because "all her pups had it and were after all show winners) What she failed to add was we supplied them ....Mrs Wilson has really only had mongrels and we have since found she bred them too, she tells everyone how she is a top moderator on dogsey site because she knows dogs !

Sadly Trin became ill when Kath as on holiday and James took her to their vet, bloods were taken and it was sadly clear and inevitable that Trin would not make it. Her tiny kidneys were failing and it was humane to have her rest now .

IN the very short time  (12 weeks )Mrs Wilson had Trin we hope that she enjoyed life  , sadly she lost her battle after consuming large amounts of dried food.

Trin was a much loved doggy, she was a true fighter and a very special girl, she brought joy at all times and we will continue her spirit and verve with a legacy that will help breeders with prem pups and also aid research at Universities all in her name.

I hope that you now all understand that breeding  can be great, but it also can be heartbreaking , but its one we should never take lightly. As a breeder my responsibility remains with my dogs forever as an owner yours starts when you take home that little pup.My thoughts are with my new parents from the second they drive off, that is when a breeder starts to know if they made the right decision  on allowing pups to go .

The Trinity K9 Puppy Health Foundtion is now being set up.

Thanks I hope you enjoy watching her in her video
